Make Your Own Beard Oil & Beard Balm

With the holidays coming up, you might be looking for that special gift to give the man in your life.  This recipe is for all the bearded men out there.  I love making homemade gifts for those I love, so if you are looking for a fun, easy project give these recipes a try.

About three years ago my husband started growing out his beard.  He keeps it longer in the winter and shorter in the summer, but no matter what length it is, it’s important to keep your beard nourished, healthy, and knot free.  Sometimes I buy beard oils and beard balms for him, and other times (most times) we make our own.  Last week my husband made his own beard balm, and you know what’s a lot of fun about making your own?  You can scent it however you like!

You might be surprised how easy it is to make your own beard oil and beard balm.  And scenting them is easy too!  All you need is essential oils!  Some of my husband’s favorite oils are:

  • Cedarwood
  • Pine
  • Bergamot
  • Idaho Blue Spruce
  • Lemon
  • Idaho Balsam Fir
  • Northern Lights Black Spruce
  • Shutran

My husband loves woodsy scents, and loves experimenting with different combinations when he makes beard oil and beard balm.  There’s literally millions of combinations you can do.  And the best thing is they are all-natural.

Now you’re ready to add your scents!  This is the fun part.  Below are some great suggestions to use in both your beard oil and beard balm.  Another great place to find suggestions for blends is on Pinterest.

Grounding Blend

  • 3 Drops Frankincense
  • 3 Drops Patchouli
  • 2 Drops Lavender
  • 2 Drops Rosemary

Spiced Woods Blend

  • 4 Drops Orange
  • 3 Drops Cedarwood
  • 3 Drops Clove

The Woodsman Blend

  • 5 Drops Pine
  • 3 Drops Clary Sage
  • 2 Drops Vetiver
  • 1 Drop Tangerine

Log Cabin Blend

  • 5 Drops Cedarwood
  • 2 Drops Black Pepper
  • 2 Drops Orange
  • 1 Drop Lemongrass

Jars for your beard balm and dropper bottles for your beard oil can easily be found a health food store.  I see them all the time in places like Vitamin Shoppe or all-natural grocery stores.  If you can’t find them in a local store, is the next best place.

Essential oils are so much fun!  You can use them for literally everything, including making gifts for those special loved one in your life.
