The Verilux HappyLight Chases The Grey Days Away

I hate grey fall/winter days.  It makes me feel blah.  I feel like I have no energy.  There is no sun.  Just grey skies.  If I’m not careful, my depression can set in, so I have to actively stop it in it’s tracks.  There’s where my Verilux HappyLight comes in.

Before getting my HappyLight I had heard about light therapy to help with S.A.D., but I didn’t know if it would work.  It sounded like a good idea and sounded like a natural way to help my “winter blues”.  One year for my birthday my husband bought me one, and I was amazed how much it helped me.  On days when it was grey, and I was starting to feel blah, I would turn on the light and sit in-front of it while I read or watched tv or cuddled with my girls.  Just a few minutes in-front of the light greatly improved my mood.

I have now gotten into the habit that during the winter months I make sure daily to sit in-front of my HappyLight so I get my daily dose of the sunlight that I miss and so crave in the fall and winter months.  I have to say, since getting my HappyLight my S.A.D. has definitely not been as bad as it used to be.

In the past, when the fall and winter would set in, I would get so depressed I couldn’t do anything.  The grey days would drag me down.  The lack of sunlight.  It was like I was thrown in a deep, dark pit and couldn’t find my way out.  I wouldn’t be able to get out of bed.  I would cry.  I had zero energy.  It was not good.  But, once I got my HappyLight all of that started to change and now, although fall and winter are still hard seasons for me, they are no longer as hard because I have a tool to get help me get through these months.

The Verilux Rise & Shine Natural Wake Up Light and Alarm Clock

About two years ago we invested in another HappyLight for our bedroom.  This one is an alarm clock that mimics the sun setting to help me fall asleep and the sun rising to help me naturally wake up.  When I go to sleep, I can set my clock’s light to mimic a sunset.  For example, most nights I will put it on a 30 minute cycle.  The light starts off real bright, and during this time I will read.  Slowly over the 30 minute cycle the light will start dimming, and once it gets too dim I will put my book down and lay down to go to sleep.  And before I know it, I’m out like a light.  I can even have nature sounds play as I’m going to sleep.  Then in the morning my alarm clock naturally wakes me up.  A few minutes before the alarm is set to go off, the light will slowly turn on and start brightening as the nature sounds start off quiet and get louder.  And once the light is fully bright, I naturally wake up and right away I am bathed in natural sunlight.

My HappyLights totally save me during the fall and winter months.  I have my HappyLight in the living room setup next to my diffuser so I can diffuse and enjoy sunlight both at the same time.  Right now, as I’m writing this, I’m enjoying and soaking in the natural light that my HappyLight gives off.  In my bedroom my HappyLight alarm clock sits next to my diffuser and my Lava Lamp.  All three are tools that help me on a daily basis.
