I’m going to admit something that I’m sure all of you have experienced at one time or another. Sometimes I get stuck in my head. My thoughts spin around, all my worries seem like a tall building just waiting to crash down on me, and I feel like I’m drowning. Last week was one of those weeks where I was just stuck in my head, stuck in my thoughts and just couldn’t get out.
But, you know something that helps? Being mindful and using mantras. Being mindful means no matter what, finding something to be thankful for everyday. Even if your day is going really bad, there’s always something you can be thankful for. Everyday I am thankful for my husband and two furry daughters. They are my everything. Even when I feel like my world is spinning out of control, they are always there, loving me and keeping me grounded. Being mindful is also all about looking at yourself and making sure you are making positive, healthy decisions whether that’s eating correctly, exercising, taking some time out just for you. Whatever it is, it’s living in the here and now. Sometimes that’s hard when your head is spinning with thoughts that won’t stop, but being mindful means being aware. Be aware of how you feel. Find something to be thankful for. Make healthy, positive decisions. Be mindful each and every day. Even if you can only make one positive decision a day, like “I choose to go to the gym” or “I choose to eat fruit instead of a chocolate bar” than that’s a step forward. You are making a healthy choice, even if your thoughts are all jumbled. Sometimes, your healthy decision might even be as simple as, and as hard as, choosing to get out of bed. Then good for you!!! Our brains are extremely powerful, so even if it’s a bad day and you can only choose to do one healthy thing, celebrate that accomplishment!
Recently, I started reading Christmas Abbott’s new book, The Badass Life: 30 Amazing Days to a Lifetime of Great Habits–Body, Mind, and Spirit. I’m not really following the book like you’re supposed to (ex. read one chapter a day and use the journal prompts to get deeper), but that’s ok. I’m doing it my way and if reading one or two chapters a day is good for me, than awesome. So far, I’m really enjoying it. As you can see above, I chose to the use the words, “I choose”. Christmas Abbott has something so wonderful to say about re-framing your thoughts into positives in her new book, and using positive words to re-frame your mindset:
“If you set goals from a negative point of view, you’re setting yourself up for failure… [Focus] on what you will do or have, rather than on what you will not do or what you will avoid… The next time you head toward your gym or get ready to exercise at home, instead of wording your goal as “I have to exercise today,” say, “I get to exercise today.””
–The Badass Life: 30 Amazing Days to a Lifetime of Great Habits–Body, Mind, and Spirit by Christmas Abbott, pages 2-3
I’m finding that advice really helpful. Just re-framing one thing can totally change your perspective. It’s just another way to be mindful every single day. And it’s so positive.
In her book, Christmas Abbott also talks about the importance of mantras. I’ve used mantras in the past to help me. I’ve used them during yoga practice, during meditation, but in my everyday-normal-not-doing-yoga-not-meditating-life, I’ve honestly never really thought about using mantras. Within the past week, I’ve seen how helpful mantras can be, and how they can help you through even the toughest days. Christmas says,
“Recite your affirmations on a regular basis – at least twice a day… [Say] them each morning upon awakening and again each night just before falling asleep – or really any time during the day. Believe your affirmations! Make them a part of you and great things will happen.”

Affirmations are personal and you have to find one that speaks to you. You may have many different affirmations. There was one in Christmas’ book that spoke to me more than any affirmation had before. It was, “If I can make it a minute, I can make it an hour. If I can make it a month, I can make it forever.” Wow! So many times when I am stuck in my head, and I can’t get my overwhelming thoughts to stop I say to myself that I can’t make it through the day. Or, if I’m doing a tough workout I tell myself that I can’t make it through the next 30 minutes or however long I have of my workout. But this mantra, it’s been helping me. “If I can make it a minute, I can make it an hour.” How powerful is that and uplifting? We can all make it through a minute, 60 seconds. This mantra has been helping me to let those minutes build until I have made it through the hour. Then, if I need to, I repeat it to myself again.
I’ve seen those MantraBand bracelets that are sold in the store, and I like them but none of them ever spoke to me, which is where Etsy comes in. Etsy is amazing for finding those one-of-a-kind pieces. I was wondering if it was possible to get a bracelet with my own personal mantra on it so I could keep it with me at all times and remind myself if I’m feeling stuck or overwhelmed to just breathe and re-center myself. And, I found exactly what I was looking for at an Etsy shop called BerkeyDesigns. Take a look at their shop. They have amazing one-of-a-kind high quality items for affordable prices.
They sell a bracelet called the Custom Secret Message Hand Stamped Bracelet – Personalized Bracelet. I absolutely loved what it looked like and how my mantra would be hidden, and would just be for me. So, I bought it and had my new mantra hand stamped in it. A few days later I received my bracelet in the mail and it’s even more amazing than I thought. I’ve been wearing it everyday since I got it in the mail. It is super comfortable and it’s a good reminder for me to stay mindful. It is also really high quality, and very fashionable looking. Just looking at it, everyone would think it’s just a really pretty bracelet, but little do they know the message that is inside that helps me to re-center myself, remain positive and keep going.
Being mindful and using mantras is really all about staying in the moment and finding what works for you. No one ever said life was easy. Some days are harder than others. But, it’s about finding the ways to work through those moments. For me, reading self-help positive books full of inspiration and tips help me, and little reminders like a bracelet with my mantra in it help to keep me in the here and now.
Living the M.U.D. Lifestyle is about enjoying life, staying present and experiencing all that life has to offer. It’s about celebrating life everyday, even during the bad days, and always finding something to be thankful for.
This is my own personal review and I have not received any compensation for it.
